The Team Lew’s SLP HyperMag Speed Spool is a high performance, tournament-grade baitcaster with a Super Low Profile (SLP) one-piece magnesium frame. But why magnesium over say, aluminum or graphite, like most baitcasting reels? Well, while it is a bit pricier, magnesium is significantly lighter and stronger than aluminum or graphite. This allows an extremely tough and rugged reel with a much lighter gross weight (5.4 ounces) than a similarly tough aluminium framed reel. In addition to this tough but light frame, these reels are also pack with Lew’s best features.
The Team Lew’s SLP HyperMag Speed Spool’s weight is further reduced by C45 carbon side plates and an aircraft-grad duralumin spool. A premium 11-bearing system with double-shielded stainless steel ball bearings and a Zero-Reverse one-way clutch bearing allow for smooth rotation with minimal engagement. When it’s time to switch baits, the Team Lew’s HyperMag Speed Spools are equipped with an externally adjustable 4-pin, 27-position SpeedCast Adjustable Centrifugal Braking (ACB) Braking system that allows for quick adjustments, a huge come-up in the time-crunch of tournament competition.
Team Lew’s HyperMag Speed Spool reels are available in 7.5:1 and 8.3:1 gear ratios in both Left and Right Hand retrieves.
*Note: it is highly recommended that you do not use magnesium frame reels in salt or brackish water environments, the magnesium is prone to corrosion and pitting when exposed to electrolytes such as saltwater.*

Great reel for the price. The build quality is solid, and it performs well in both freshwater and saltwater. The only downside is it takes a bit to get used to the braking system.
